In 2011 the German AMI Musical Instruments Company bought the Sigma brand name and relaunched Sigma guitars again, including the DM-18 model, this time being produced in China. Also available as a 12 string (DM12-1), the Sigma DM-18 was discontinued around 1996. The Sigma model names were chosen to match with Martin model numbers: the solid spruce topped Sigma DM-18 was closely modelled on the Martin D-18 dreadnought. The Sigma DM-18 was introduced around 1978 when Sigma was the Japanese budget line of Martin guitars.
